It's a soap...They should have recast the role! It's a soap opera through and through...people would've gotten used to it. Both the actors wanted off the show permanently; apparently the creator even asked them if they'd just reappear from time to time and they said no; they wanted to pursue other opportunities BROUGHT TO THEM by their participation in Downton Abbey. Sigh.Kathy Mnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36953758.post-23466203396311501792013-03-03T12:53:10.021-05:002013-03-03T12:53:10.021-05:00I was horrified as well. Sybil was tragic but she ...I was horrified as well. Sybil was tragic but she was peripheral anyway. But Matthew??? And right after another baby was born. Sheesh - let's make it as tragic as possible. But my friend told me it's really b/c Sybil and Matthew didn't renew their contracts so they had to be killed off. That season finale was the CHRISTMAS special in Britain, if you can imagine. And apparently What's his name postponed the death until the very end so the whole episode wouldn't be a debby downer. But, yes, a shocker to those with American sensibilities. I'm not sure how they can recover from this. Why couldn't someone downstairs have not renewed their contract instead??? Then they could have just been replaced by a new servant, or have become a secretary or something, instead of taken out!Betsy Escandonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13598482569526345086noreply@blogger.com
