O is for Overdone

I kept it under bloggy wraps, but this weekend I had lots of contractions, had my membranes stripped, finally got the guest room ready, made sure the labor and toddler bags were packed...and then waited. And waited. And waited. And nothing else happened. Thursday night's contractions disappeared in the morning; Saturday morning's stronger contractions lasted even less time; and Sunday passed without incident.

LAME!!!

The good news is that my appointment on Friday revealed that I am 2 1/2 centimeters dilated and "very soft," mostly effaced. So things are definitely progressing, just not as quickly as I might have hoped. Several of my contractions were strong enough and long enough to remind me of how much it all hurt last time, which was...nice. And also, you know, terrifying. Those who have followed this blog for a long time know that my last delivery was not the stuff of peaches and roses (to use the muddled phrase of a high school rival of mine). And it all came rushing back during some of the longer and stronger contractions. Yet another reason just to get this all over with: the longer I have to think about it (with helpful reminders of pain), the more freaked out I will get. Which can only make things better, right? Not so much!

"Had my membranes stripped" is a phrase that should really never be uttered. Oof. I see you have 10 days to go so I will be thinking of you and sending quick-labor vibes your way! Can't wait to meet the new little Maughan!
